MISSION
One Nation — Under Thizz.
The Hyphy Movement has not come and gone. Folks be ghost riding their whips with stunner shades on, going stoopid on thizz, with Bay Area music slapping hard in the trunks of their scrapers. Underground artists and producers on the West Coast and beyond are pushing the boundaries of this sound rooted in the hyphy movement brought to us almost single handedly by the man-myth-legend-late and loved Mac Dre, and Santa Cruz’s Smasheltooth aims to make you listen.
After nearly two decades of attending music festivals and raves, Smasheltooth wanted to bring hip hop, hyphy, and rap music heavily infused with EDM to the dancefloor. One day she secured a festival DJ set, a 12-pack of Champagne, and started mashing up her favorite hyphy and electronic tracks. People immediately started wiggin, putting a look on their face like they smelled some piss. People got hyphy. People went dumb. The gap between worlds was bridged and the rest is fucking thizzstory.
Since that fine day Smasheltooth has worked to secure a fine collection of both rap and electronic music, as well as contacts in both musical realms. Smasheltooth Presents: Hyphy Renaissance Toothtape, Volume One, is a project that culminates seven years of passion and dedication to the love of mixing hyphy music with electronic bass music, the love of producers in the festival scene, the love of hyphy producers in the yay area, and our mutual love of partying til we fall on the floor.
Smasheltooth has teamed up with San Jose producer Indaskyes to bring the best of her favorite worlds and producers together, in perfect bass slappin, ass crackin, and beat mackin doo doo goodness sprinkled with that hyphy magic only the Bay Area can provide. We let a few songs slip that were out of the hyphy arena just because they’re yay-ok.
“I’d rather die like a man than live my life like a bitch, I’d rather be in the pen than walk the streets as a snitch, player population is decreasing by millions, so I dedicate this to all the real ones.” ~Mac Dre
